Remarks: |
A deeply affective setting from the opening verses
of Lamentations. It is thought that in setting this
text, the composer was responding to the horrific sack
of Rome
in 1527 by the army of Charles V. Almost 5 centuries
after its composition, Jacquet’s setting still
speaks with a telling immediacy, especially in light
of the events of September 11.
