Remarks: |
An exquisite setting of the Marian antiphon built around
the original plainsong elegantly paraphrased in
the alto voice. The three accompanying parts match the chant voice in general character, though as usual with Ockeghem, there is almost a complete absence of imitation or other obvious melodic patterning. The unusually high tessitura mitigates
to
some
degree the composer’s characteristically dense
polyphonic textures so that the piece unfolds with a
limpid grace and a mood of quiet rapture. | |
