Communion; Feasts of the Blessed Sacrament |
Remarks: |
This setting of Psalm 34, v. 8-10, "O taste and see how good the Lord is," became quite
celebrated almost 30 years after its first publication
for a reason only tangentially related to its musical
qualities.
In
1584
a thunderstorm
threatened the annual Corpus Christi procession in Munich.
However, as Lassus led his choir in the singing of this
motet, the sun suddenly emerged from behind the clouds.
Every year thereafter, the composition was performed
during the procession as fair weather insurance.
