Conceived on the broadest scale, this motet paraphrases in succession two liturgical chants traditionally sung during the Veneration of the Cross on Good Friday. Each section of the motet leisurely unfolds in a series of overlapping polyphonic arches that build to and ebb from a climactic moment.
